This weekend, Southwest and AirTran took a giant leap forward toward fully connecting our two route networks! Effective for travel beginning Sunday, March 10th, Southwest and AirTran are now selling shared itineraries between the following 39 cities:

Southwest will market domestic nonstops and connections between any of these cities even if travel is entirely aboard AirTran flights. These Southwest-marketed, AirTran-operated flights will be clearly identified as “operated by AirTran” but you can easily identify the SWA-marketed/AirTran-operated flights by their flight numbers, as they’ll be numbered in the 5001-6999 range (essentially, take the AirTran operating flight number and add 5000 to it).
AirTran is selling domestic and international shared itineraries between the same 39 cities in which travel begins or ends on a Southwest Airlines leg. In AirTran distribution channels, you’ll see the AirTran-marketed, Southwest-operated flights with AirTran code in the flight number range 2001-6999 (take the Southwest operating flight number and add 2000) and will carry a notation that they’re operated by Southwest.
This HUGE advancement means that we’ll be able to sell nearly 17,000 additional itineraries every week, and that’s just the start.
