U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Clark speaks at the annual International Women’s Day Conference.

Nearly 100 years ago, women gained the right to vote and more than 50 years later, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day. This year, Southwest is proud to work with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation on events such as its International Women’s Day Forum.

Southwest has always championed women. In 2019, we were named a "Best Employer for Women" by Forbes, and this year, we hope to continue being a strong supporter through events like the 2020 International Women’s Day Forum. With a theme of “Marking a Milestone, Continuing the Momentum,” the event explores the changemakers, doers, leaders, and visionaries who are paving the way for a better future for all.

Southwest supports and participates in this forum, where hundreds of business and government leaders examine ways the private sector is driving women’s empowerment around the globe. The event, which is held in New York, explores business strategies for increasing gender diversity and enabling women to achieve their full economic potential. “There is renewed energy, attention, and focus on the challenges facing many women in the U.S. economy—and the even steeper barriers that confront women all over the world,” said Suzanne Clark, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Our challenge today is to channel a moment into a movement. It’s to drive lasting progress on behalf of women everywhere, from our own companies and communities to the farthest corners of the world.”

Through this partnership, Southwest Airlines® celebrates 2020 as a very important year for promoting women’s economic empowerment and gender inclusion for the achievement of global equality and peace.
