Every Seat Has a Story: Paging the Tooth Fairy!

What do you do when your son loses his front tooth and swallows it while you’re sitting on an airplane? The irony that we couldn’t find a tooth fairy during our flight wasn’t lost on me, but what happened next was quite the surprise.

Mason had all of his teeth when we boarded the flight.

Naturally my son, Mason, was sad because he wouldn’t be able to put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy to retrieve. Another part of my son’s sadness stemmed from the fact that I told him the tooth fairy wouldn’t come if he swallowed another tooth, and this was his second one to swallow. During the safety announcement, Mason caught the attention of one of the Flight Attendants and told her his story. She chuckled, and told him she would see what she could do.

Somewhere over the U.S. Mason lost and swallowed his front tooth

After finishing the safety demonstration, the Flight Attendant asked Mason’s father and me if she could make an announcement to the plane that Mason had lost his front tooth. Of course we obliged and he was so excited to hear his name over the speaker. Then she brought him a dollar that she said was dropped off by the tooth fairy after she heard Mason’s story. He was so happy! A little while later she came back with another dollar that she said another tooth fairy had dropped off after hearing what happened.  She totally made his day and ours.  Mason was so thankful that he waited for everyone to deplane before heading to the back of the aircraft to give the Flight Attendant a hug and to say thank you for calling the tooth fairy. Now he thinks that the only way the tooth fairy comes during the day is if you’re in the air on a plane!

We love flying Southwest because the staff is usually friendlier, more helpful, and more amusing than any other airline. I hope that our Flight Attendant knows how much we appreciate her for going above and beyond for our son.
