Flying a Wedding Cake Internationally

A few years ago, I  had a terrible and frustrating trip from Portland, Oregon, to Belize on another airline, and after that experience, I took my friend’s suggestion to fly Southwest. Needless to say, that was the best decision I’ve ever made—I’ve been flying Southwest ever since!

Recently, I traveled from Portland to Belize for my niece’s wedding. She had no idea I was coming, so my arrival was a total surprise! Not only that, but I surprised her by bringing a beautiful wedding cake along with me. In Portland, I baked, torted, and filled four cakes and made a huge tub of icing, sugar flowers, and leaves. I proceeded to check the pieces of the cake into luggage on this flight.

All of the pieces arrived in Belize in excellent condition! The cakes, frosting, and sugar flowers were in tact—not even a petal was broken! This was such a successful venture. I was able to frost and set up my niece’s wedding cake in Belize with no hiccups. You can imagine how surprised and excited she was to have the wedding cake of her dreams!

Thank you, Southwest, for helping me make the most significant cake I have made in my more than 20 year cake decorating career. You are truly the best!
