Happy Green Tuesday and Happy May!

I consider May 1 to be an especially awesome day, because this is my Southwest anniversary—who knew I was in for the flight of my life!?   May also brings beautiful flowers.  We’re been lucky that many parts of the country have had some rain this spring, and already there is evidence that April showers really do bring May flowers.

As you are planning your flower beds through the spring, summer, and fall, check out the great online resources to help you maximize the “pretty factor” while reducing the water and replacement factor!  Help your garden go Green!

  • Check out http://www.wildflower.org/plants to find plants and flowers that grow great in your region.  You can type in a kind of plant to see where it grows well, search by state, or by a variety of characteristics, such as appearance and lifespan.
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture has a terrific plant database that you can find at www.plants.usda.gov.
  • For all things nature, check out The Nature Conservancy, which has interesting information about the science behind conservation with practical information you can use.
  • If you are interested in how to design your own native plant landscaping and other tutorials, including best plants to use, check out www.plantnative.org

Have fun, and let us know how you garden Green by commenting below.  And, take some photos for us and submit them, along with your gardening tips to Green@wnco.com.  We will feature them in a future post.

DING!  You are now free to be Green!
