Music can be an escape. A means of connecting with ourselves and with others. A discovery of uncharted territory. Travel, and the places that inspire us, are similarly impactful.

Seeing how both music and travel play such a role in the lives of the people who make great art—and the people who love it—has been one of the greatest joys of helping build the Luck Reunion. We have the chance to witness firsthand as artists journey down memory lane ... remembering the first time they picked up a guitar; the time they hit the road for their first gig; and the people they met along the way.

Every story starts somewhere, and the new Sites & Sounds content series, presented in partnership by Southwest and Luck Reunion, will showcase the crossover between destinations and music: the places and sounds that helped shape the artists we love.

The three-part series will shine a light on destinations that have bred a culture of creativity, inviting the audience to experience unique locations through the artist's lens. Each episode will feature an artist in their hometown who will welcome a creative friend to tag along and experience the spots and people that contributed to their creative path.

Episode One welcomes Nashville's edgy sweetheart, singer-songwriter Nikki Lane, to Lukas Nelson's hometown of Maui. Nelson gives a unique insider's glance at Southwest's newest destination: taking Lane to the surf spots, restaurants, and the venue that shaped his career and life at an early age.

Nelson discusses the impact of travel on his creative work, saying, “Being on an airplane is a good time to write for me because I tend to have a melody in my head. So when I'm in the air and am away from it all, I can focus in and get that general melody and lyrics down. Then I can go anywhere and finish it.”

Lukas' friends, singer Lily Meola and her brother, surfer and fisherman Matt Meola, and many more join the episode and give a real glimpse into the aloha spirit.

The second episode (coming soon) will bring Lukas' brother, Micah Nelson (currently performing as Particle Kid), back to his Austin, Texas, stomping grounds. The younger Nelson welcomes his good friend and amazing artist Sunny War to Texas' capital city where they explore his favorite haunts.

The final episode of Sites and Sounds, episode three, will highlight an artist’s most-loved places in the Bay Area when it debuts later this summer.

Sites and Sounds will consist of three episodes, and will be available for music fans and our Customers to enjoy by visiting Southwest.fm/SitesandSounds.
