Hey Android Users,

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve rolled out a brand new Android mobile app as part of our ongoing dedication to enhancing the Southwest travel experience! With a user-friendly interface, consistent with its iOS counterpart, the app features exciting updates that increase overall usability and functionality. New Southwest utilities, like purchasing EarlyBird Check-In® when you book, come together with familiar Google products, icons, and design to provide users with a seamless travel experience.

Android App Features:

  • Check-in, book, change, or cancel air reservations
  • Add EarlyBird Check-In® to an existing reservation and add EarlyBird Check-In® when you book.
  • Express checkout
  • View your upcoming flight’s status, boarding position, and gate information from the home page
  • Access your Mobile boarding pass and save it to your device
  • Check your flight status and setup text/email notifications
  • Enroll in and access your Rapid Rewards account
  • View travel/weather advisories
  • Book or cancel rental car reservations
  • Access information on where we fly as well as other helpful airport information

The new mobile app will work on all Android phones that operate OS versions: 7.1, 6.0, 5.0, and 4.4.4. At this time, the app is not optimized for the Android tablet, so tablet users are encouraged to visit www.southwest.com or to download the app on their phone.

Users can download the app on the Google Play Store—Southwest Airlines. Links to download the app are also available http://www.southwest.com/mobile.

I love the new app.  It is very handy.  I like the new alerts for boarding and check in.

I have one new issue that started 2 weeks ago.  The SAVE button for my boarding pass has stopped working.  It worked originally, but now does nothing.  Email works, but not save.

Is there a place to report issues or see fixes?

My phone is a new Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.  The new app worked fine originally, but the save has stopped for the last two weeks.  I checked my app permissions and they are all set to allow the app to access my storage.

Last evening I tried to use the Southwest app on my android phone. The app gave me a message it was being retired and instructed me to download the new app. When I go to Google Play, the new app comes up as incompatible with my device. If the apps for other airlines work, I might be inclined to choose those airlines.

Actually, I am not so thrilled.  I am, apparently, experiencing the same problems noted by moreofless on 01-13-2017.  It is now 07-10-2017.  When I attempted to log on the the SWA mobile app installed on my Motorola Android XT1030, I got the same error message that stated the app was being retired and that I needed to get the new version from the google app store.  When I went to the app store and attempted to install the new android app, I received the error message the the app was not compatible with your device.  All other airline and travel apps work just fine on my two plus year old motorola.  What is Southwest doing to address this issue.

Not so thrilled update:

O.K., I took my cell phone into the Verizon store and explained my inability to download the "upgraded" android app created by Southwest.  We confirmed that my phone is a Motorola (Android) Droid Mini.  The operating system (OS) is 4.4.4.  All software is current and up-to-date.  This phone is just over two years old.

According to the Southwest announcement (Redesigned and Ready for Take-off: Android 3.0 is Here!), "The new mobile app will work on all (bold added) Adroid phones that operate OS versions: 7.1, 6.0, 5.0 and (italics added) and 4.4.4 (bold added).  Well, gentlemen, as noted above, my Droid Mini is running on OS 4.4.4 and yet when I attempt to upload the (new and imporved) Southwest Air android app from the Google Store, I am still getting the error message that it is "...not compatible with this device...."

When I contacted Southwest customer service, they advised that the problem was not the app but, the mobile phone.  After confirming that my device is, in fact, running OS 4.4.4, Verizon suggests that the problem is the app.

Let the "finger pointing" begin...

Hey

@mickeycoffey

Can I ask what OS version you are on?

Could you also send a screenshot of the error message you are receiving in the app store?

Thanks!
