Southwest Cargo Takes Top Honors for Excellence in Air Cargo Service

Not applicable

Southwest Airlines was recognized for excellence in air cargo service this past week at the AirCargo 2011 Conference held in San Diego, CA, which is the largest annual industry conference held in the United States and is attended by freight forwarders and couriers from across the country.  We were honored to receive two very prestigious awards related to excellence in air cargo.

Southwest Airlines Cargo was announced as the “Domestic Carrier of the Year” for 2011 by the Airforwarders Association (AfA).  This is the second year this award has been presented by the AfA, and we are humbled to be the recipient both times.  The award is presented based upon an airline’s ontime performance, Customer Service, problem resolution, claims handling, technology support, service options, and overall value.  The AfA is an alliance of Indirect Air Carriers, Cargo Airlines, and affiliated businesses located throughout the global transportation community.  Several Members of the Southwest Airlines Cargo Team were in attendance to accept the award.

(L-R) Chairman of AfA Richard Fisher, Director of Southwest Cargo Sales & Marketing Wally Devereaux, and Executive Director of AfA Brandon Fried,.

Additionally, Southwest received "Airline of the Year" by the Express Delivery & Logistics Association (XLA). Southwest Airlines has placed on XLA's Airline of the Year list for ten consecutive years. In addition, Southwest Airlines Cargo won XLA's award for Excellence in Web Site and Technology for the second year in a row.  The XLA Awards are based on an annual survey of association members who use the services of commercial passenger airlines for their express deliveries around the world. Southwest took top honors in 2002, 2003, and 2005 through 2010, and finished second in the rankings in 2001 and 2004.

(L-R) Southwest Sr Cargo Sales Manager John Barnes, XLA Airline Liaison Committee Chair Matt Groppe, and Southwest Director of Cargo Programs & Compliance Jay Hollingsworth.

Receiving these awards represents the tremendous commitment and hard work of our Employees in many different capacities across our system.  We celebrate these prestigious awards with our Employees who provide our Cargo Customers with award-winning air cargo service.  We appreciate each Cargo Agent that accepts, screens, and releases cargo; our Ramp Agents that load multiple shipments efficiently; the Flight Operations Employees who manage to get Cargo shipments onboard and not impact on time performance; and the Employees in the Cargo Management organization that support air cargo in a variety of ways.  We undoubtedly have the best Employees in the business and this award is a testament to that fact.

 Thanks for all you do!
