Today we celebrate our 30th year of operation in Amarillo with gate decorations and complimentary adult beverages to Customers flying to or from the yellow rose of Texas wearing something yellow or “amarillo.” We also are celebrating with a first born baby contest. The family of the first baby born in Amarillo today in one of two hospitals will be awarded four roundtrip tickets to any Southwest Airlines destination!

“Southwest Airlines today celebrates the birth of our operations here in Amarillo,” said Field Marketing Manager Ramiro Ramirez. “As one of our first ten cities, Amarillo is a milestone in our national growth.”

Southwest started service in Amarillo on December 12, 1978, with four nonstop flights. Our 51 local Employees currently operate 12 nonstops and carry 64 percent of the local airline market.

Congratulations to all AMA Employees!
