I never knew that my ideas on how to hold a green-themed wedding would take me across the nation to San Diego. This past spring, I entered Southwest’s Dream Green Getaway Contest, and shared how I added “green” to my wedding by working with reused items. As you can see below, I used wine corks, wine bottles, and various glass jars for my centerpieces—the wine corks are secured together with ribbon and the seam hidden with a wooden heart painted blue.
I was so excited when I got the e-mail that I had won a fantastic travel package from Southwest Vacations! We got to fly for free to sunny San Diego for a two-night stay at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina! Plus, I was given annual park passes courtesy of the National Park Foundation and my very own Southwest-branded bike.
We managed to squeeze a lot of sightseeing into just a few days. From perusing the wonderful buildings, shops, and restaurants in Old Town, to making an impromptu visit to Balboa Park, our trip was fantastic. We even got a chance to visit the San Diego Zoo, and I was so impressed with their conservation efforts and educational programs. While we were there, I took the opportunity to “adopt” a panda–one of my favorite animals!
My fiancé and I are not only committed to each other, but to the environment as well. And, it’s so reassuring to know that the LUV airline feels the same way and understands the importance of operating with a green filter. Thank you, Southwest! My fiancé and I loved visiting a new place and going on a fun, pre-wedding trip.
