The Case of the Missing Library Book

As the Librarian of Willow Creek Elementary, students often tell me they "lost" their library book if it's missing for awhile and can't find it. This happened to one student, so he paid the fee to replace it. After the school year wrapped up, our school office received a phone call from a Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant named Scott who found a library book on his plane.

Scott shared that he is an avid reader and wanted to help keep books in our students hands—this is why he wanted to help this book find its way home. When I got back to school from summer break, the book was waiting for us with a note, and since it was returned within the time limit, we were even able to issue a refund to the kiddo who lost it!

We figured a few pictures, a heartfelt note from the student who lost the book, and a little token of appreciation was the least we could send Scott for showing our book the world. It was neat to see someone who cares about books as much as we do. At our school, we strive to build lifelong readers who associate reading with positive feelings and real-world connections, so this act of kindness matched perfectly with our values. Thank you, Scott!

I planned a trip to California to be at my best friend's 30th wedding anniversary.  I was her maid of honor.  I live in Rhode Island.   My husband had open hear surgery in july, was able to fly.  Unfortunately, two days before the trip he got pneumonia.  I had to cancel.  Southwest refunded my airline miles and taxes.   This is why I fly Southwest.  I was so sad that I couldn't go but I knew that I wouldn't have to pay for cancelling or lose my miles/money.  This airline does it right and that is why when I fly I always go Southwest even if it isn't the most direct route.  I love Southwest!!!!!!

I'm an avid reader myself although these days my media of choice is my kindle.  We took a short vacation trip for a couple of days a few years ago and as always I was reading on my kindle on the flight home.  When we started the landing process I turned my kindle off and put it in the seat back pocket to put in my bag when were ready to leave the aircraft....you guessed it, I left it on the plane.  I was devestated.

I work for the Provo dept so I called one our Supervisors to see if they could possibly track it down, even though I feared it gone forever.  I was so surprised and delighted to find out that a Flight Attendant had turned it in to an Operations Agent and it was in the lost and found just waiting to be claimed!

I really don't know why I was surprised, becuase that's just an example of the wonderful people I get to work with daily.
