Where are they Now? Former Campus Reach Intern, Alec Siems

New Arrival

Ever wonder where our Campus Reach Interns end up for full-time employment? Perhaps, you have asked yourself, “Where are they Now?” The Campus Reach Program has built a talent acquisition pipeline here at Southwest, so you will see many, many of our former Interns roaming the hallways as now, full-time Southwest Employees.

Alec interned on the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team back in the summer of 2015 and is now an Associate Analyst on the Optimization & Data Science Team. Read on for more.

Year/semester of internship:  Summer 2015

Department/Team interned for:  Technology –  Enterprise Data & Analytics

Department/Team and current job title:  Technology – Optimization & Data Science

Years at Southwest:  First year

Favorite Southwest city:  Orlando

Most memorable Southwest moment/event:  21st birthday during my internship: a “World Tour” of beers began mysteriously appearing on my desk throughout the day - I saved them for enjoyment at home. Then my team made me perform a lip sync of “All Star” by Smash Mouth at the end of the day.

First ever job:  Soccer referee

Proudest Southwest moment: The moment that I found out I would be working full-time with the Optimization & Data Science Team. They’re very smart people!

Words to live by:  “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” – Jimi Hendrix

Reasons other people should intern at Southwest:  There is a unique Culture and sense of pride at Southwest that can only be truly understood from the inside. Employees here care about you and will strive to help you succeed.

Ultimate Travel Tip: Ask the Southwest Flight Attendants if you can help pass out snacks during the flight. It is always really fun and they will appreciate the help – but make sure to keep your balance during turbulence!
