@melanie16 below is what is found on the TSA’s website or you can visit them at

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

It sounds like there are other ways they can look up your identity if you have any issues supplying what’s called out from TSA.

Adult passengers 18 and over must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint in order to travel.

  • Driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
  • Permanent resident card
  • Border crossing card
  • DHS-designated enhanced driver's license
  • Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
  • HSPD-12 PIV card
  • Foreign government-issued passport
  • Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
  • Transportation worker identification credential
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential

Good luck!

Morning.

If you have travelled frequently via plane in the past TSA "knows" things about you and would ask you questions that only you could answer. Answering those questions correctly allows you to prove that you are who you say you are. If you have not travelled much, TSA may not be able to do that. I do  not know if TSA would accept a student ID, since it is not on the "appoved list" provided in the other reponse, I suspect it would not.

Without a valid ID, you would have to complete the process twice: outbound and return

That being said, my advice would be to try to replace your lost ID in the 9 days before your flight.

Good  luck.

It certainly doesn't substitute for the valid ID listed at TSA - i.e. you can't just walk up to the checkpoint with it and expect to pass through. But it could serve as supporting information during a brief interview. Allow extra time!

Here's more to read about the topic:

I have no idea what percentage of people that arrive at security without ID are rejected. I've tried to find something about this and failed. That being said, I'm sure the percentage is not zero.
