Las vegas needing apple watch scaner

So I was comming Home from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh .  When I got to the gate to board  I wanted to use my apple watch with my ticket on it , The Agent told me that Las Vegas was not set up to handle scanning the apple watch yet  so I had to go get a Paper Ticket and lose my boarding Location  So instead of Early Bird Check In I was the last one to Board

Could you get it on your phone instead? All, or nearly all airports can take mobile boarding passes from smart phones.
