Trying to pre check and keep getting this error. It works fine if I enter the other passengers name. I've tried both middle names, no middle names, different last names. No combo works.

Goodness, that would make my heart skip a beat. Hopefully you resolved it by now. Best Option - return to the email and check the name. If still not working, call customer service. Because of the 737 Max, there was a period of heavy re-scheduling. Report back and let us know the outcome.
