Why is it so much to flight in and out of gsp to mdw 274 should be round trip not one way ... three hour layover in atl

It's all about supply and demand. Lots of people are flying since it's the summer travel season and if you don't book months ahead, it's hard to find cheap air fares.
Leaving Mon. Jun 25th and returning Fri. Jun. 29th, basic economy roundtrip fares between Chicago (ORD) and Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) are:
United: $522
Delta: $539.10
American: $522
So, $274 one-way on Southwest is about right.

@kendrick If you have some flexibility in your travel dates, check out the low fare calendar for dates that have lower fares. It lets you look at the lowest fare between two cities each day one month at a time.
