Refunding a ticket booked with Rapid Rewards for another passenger

Hi there. Part of why I love Southwest is the ability to cancel tickets if my plans change. I want to book a flight for a person other than myself using my own Rapid Reward Points.

In the event that I need to cancel or reschedule, are my points available for me to use in the future? Or are the points only available to be used by the ticketed passenger, i.e., the other person?

Thanks very much.

Dan

Edit: oh, and I know the September 11th fee is non-refundable.

The points go back into your account for you to use.

The September 11 fee is not non-refundable. You can request a refund to your credit card, unless you've made any changes to your itinerary, in which case the fee will be held under the confirmation number as travel funds, usable by the original passenger only, for one year from the date of purchase.
