Travel Funds expire in less than a year?

I booked a flight on 6/22/17 that I now have $52 in credits from due to price drops. This flight is for Jan 2018 so has not happened yet. I tried to book another flight for 2/21/2018 and I learned that my credits expire on 2/7/2018, less than a year after purchase.

Why is that?

The only thing I can come up with is that this traces back to another flight that I purchased on 2/7/2017 that has been used already. I used a $20 credit from that flight to book the one on 6/22/17, but I still paid $130 out of pocket.

Yep, since you used an older travel fund as part of the purchase, the expiration date of the travel funds associated with new reservation is the original, old date.

That's total BS on their part. Southwest is not going to be my default airline anymore with that policy.

Compared to other airlines who charge change fees and don't let you get credit when the price of a reservation drops, it's a pretty generous policy.
