I am wondering what happened to the trays that folded out of the arm rests of the seats in the first row? I was on a 700 series at the time.

Not sure why you didn't have a fold out table but if I had to guess, I would say it might have been a maintenance issue.
The Front row usually has folding arm tables like you said.
