I was hoping to get 110,000 points to earn a Companion Pass for 2020. I spent and paid $12,700 prior to my December 11 cut off. Today, only 9,148 points posted, leaving me several thousand short of my goal. Why wouldn't I get the full 12,700 points? Thanks.

Points are paid based on spend not payment. Bet your statement total was $9148.
Looks like it might be time fo a points flight or two or southwest shopping. Don't wait too long.

Statement total was not $9148, although at some point that was probably the number. Or that may be because of extra points assigned for airfare purchases. Not as straightforward as I'd hoped. We already have a flight and car booked. Looks like we will be 917 points short.

Time to fill out some surveys or use Rapid Rewards Dining or Shopping!! Rewards for Opinions and RR Dining / Shopping all count towards Companion Pass.

There are usually some easy ways to get 1000 points through the Shopping portal. 1-800 Flowers has saved me in the past. Look for high points per dollar spent, but not bonuses.

A reminder that Southwest flights earn 6 points for each $1 of base fare if you buy a WGA fare and don't have status (source: https://www.southwest.com/rapidrewards/how-to-earn#base). So by my math if you take a flight this year with a base fare of at least $153 (total cost will be higher) you'll lock it in based on what you've described. I personally value a Companion Pass at a value great than $200 so it's an expense I'd be willing to pay.

Also, getting back to the original question, was all $12k actual spend or did you have any cash advances, interest, or other fees? None of those would count and would reduce the points posted. And yes, $$$ spent on Southwest airfare would add some extra points so it's not a simple $1 spent = 1 point earned, although it should be more points than dollars spent instead of what you're seeing, fewer points than dollars spent.
