Maybe some on can clear this up for me. I was told that the points for opening up a rapid rewards credit card go towards your accrual of a companion pass. When i called SW and asked this question, i was told that they do not, only actual flights count. Who is right and who is wrong?

Companion Pass rules:
Points earned from program enrollment, tier bonus points, flight bonus points, and partner bonus points (with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not qualify as Companion Pass qualifying points.*
Please see exception.... When I read this rule, the points you get for opening a Chase card count towards the Companion.
