Do Rapid rewards shopping/dining count towards companion pass?

Hello,

I was curious if points earned through the rapid rewards shopping portal or rapid rewards dining count towards earning the companion pass?

For example, 5X points for shopping at Nike?

Yes, most points earned through the shopping portal will count towards Companion Pass. If there are bonus offers such as spend X amount in the portal and get X bonus points, those will most likely not count towards Companion Pass, but regular shopping such as the 5x at Nike will count. I don't have experience with the dining portal, but suspect it's the same.

I can confirm that points earned through the dining program do count towards companion pass eligibility, but strangely do not count towards A-list eligibility -- at least on my account.

@dfwskier Nope, the only way you're going to get tier qualify (A-List) is actually flying or through the Southwest credit card. Even through the credit card, not every point earned is tier qualifying, you have to hit spending thresholds.

Re: A-List Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs):

1) Butt in seat (flying)

2) Rapid Rewards Premier Card (only):

  • 1,500 tier qualifying points toward A-List and A-List Preferred status for every $10,000 spent, up to $100,000.

No multipliers, no bonuses.

As to Companion Pass Qualifying Points, all partner base points count, bonus points do not (with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Visa (any card),  and (currently) Southwest Hotels bookings made through the Southwest website: all points including bonus count.

Thank you for the information.  Could you please clarify what you mean by this:

(with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Visa (any card),  and (currently) Southwest Hotels bookings made through the Southwest website: all points including bonus count.

Thanks!

In general, partner bonus points do not count toward CP. The exceptions are the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards (all bonus points do count), and hotel bookings through Southwest Hotels (all bonus points currently do count, although small print may say otherwise).

@dfwskier Oh, and thanks for confirming that dining portal points do qualify towards Companion Pass.
