In addition to opening Chicago Midway on St. Patrick’s Day of 1985, another key Station about 300 miles to the south joined the Southwest system the same morning – St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

1At gate 80 in the east terminal building, Herb was joined by several St. Louis area leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony at our single gate in the new terminal.  And just like in Chicago, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade helped Southwest say hello to our newest destination.

2Our initial St. Louis service was 19 flights a day to Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, and New Orleans.  And over the past 30 years, it has grown to almost 100 flights a day to 34 destinations.
