It's the most wonderful time of the year!

College football. It has to be the best time of the year. Summer ending, cooler weather, the trees changing color. OK, maybe I'm rushing things a bit, but that's what college football makes me think about. It's a common language and a bond. Ask anyone about his or her alma mater and football and you have an instant conversation. As a matter of fact, we have a group that gets together monthly to discuss college football. Shunned by the "boys" group to talk football, I started a college football chicks group (we included the guys as well). We meet monthly to talk college football at our local hamburger place, Club Schmitz. You might have guessed we're loaded with Texas fans. Reservations, Advertising, Promotions, Loyalty, Online and Sports Marketing actually have people that wear burnt orange. There is one lone OU fan in our group who did support her conference for the championship game last year. Or was it to see those USC guys go down? A&M has fans in Advertising and in one of our other "blog gals." One of our Technology Leads is a Texas Tech fan along with another Sports Marketing Manager. We have an LSU Tiger fan in QA and an Auburn fan that was kind enough to donate $10 to me after the loss to Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl. A Florida guy in Technology and a Tennessee fan in our Dallas Field Office. It's more than the Big 12 and SEC here, we actually let a Buckeye fan run some of our Revenue Management Department and a couple of Michigan guys run loose on technical projects. Our VP of Marketing is an Illini alum, but he won't talk to us until basketball season. Whatever. Me? I'm a Badger fan myself. Predictions? Ponderings? Smack?

Great blog, Jill... you are always great at getting the smack going early! As a very proud member of the College Sports Chicks Club, I feel responsible for letting the world know that the SWA Sports Marketing team actually has TWO Red Raiders on our team of four!! Oh yeah, we also have an Aggie and a Torero. What exactly is a Torero, Andy??

Jill, it makes me shed a tear to think that College Football season begins tomorrow. I am so happy and love that you are giving props to our "chicks can talk football" group! I hope we can return the favor by letting all of our blog readers understand the greatness of this group that you have created for us. It makes me so upset to know that I missed our first Schmitz outing last week and didn't get to revel in my Longhorn's Championship status just one more time. Have no fear though - I will continually remind our College Football Chicks group (and everyone else) that we remain National Champs until proven otherwise. As I head to Austin this evening on "College Football Eve," I will be smiling the entire way in knowing that the grass is freshly cut, the yardlines are newly painted, the Texas flags are proudly flying from one end of DKR Memorial Stadium to the other, and the expanse of RVs for traveling tailgaters are already parked all along I-35. I'm sure we'll pop in an old Longhorn Band cd at some point on the ride down so we can properly sing "The Eyes of Texas" with our fellow interstate road warriors. It is truly like being a kid at Christmas. Those are only the beginnings of my happy thoughts for the start of another year of Texas football. I'm sure you have your own Badger experiences that get you excited for a home game, just as each other fan has their own sights, smells, and sounds that make them get pumped up for a game. So with that, I wish everyone a most happy and prosperous season!! HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!

I love college football. I agree, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Except for March Madness. That's really the most wonderful time of the year. But this is close. Anyway, can you please put in a word to have Southwest fly to Gainesville, Florida? A non-stop from DAL would be great. I guess I can wait 8 years. If that doesn't work out, how about a specialty paint job - Gator One! Orange and Blue with a big 'ol Red Belly. I'm getting chills just thinking about it's greatness. Go Gators!!! Terry

For those who were not fortunate enough to attend such a highly esteemed academic institution as the University of San Diego: the word Torero comes from the Spanish term toro, the bull, and from the word torear, to fight bulls. All of the contestants in the ring are called toreros. Torero is a general term describing a bullfighter and signifies courage, honor and fidelity. USD Student Athletes, like the Torero, represent a willingness to stand alone in the ring and accept the challenge. By the way, for all you college football fans, Southwest Airlines is the new Presentating Sponsor of ABC's Saturday Night College Football... tune in this week as the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame take on Georgia Tech at 8 pm (est). ... Go Irish !!

Ah yes...college football. Awesome! As a Jawjah Bulldawg, I can appreciate the previous posters' descriptions of the sights, sounds and traditions associated with a home game weekend! 🙂 Nothing like a game Between the Hedges! I don't get to Athens (a.k.a. The Classic City) nearly often enough -- went to my first home game in 14 or 15 years just last fall -- but I still follow the team via ESPN, http://www.georgiadogs.com/, and other online sports news sites. Go Dawgs...Sic 'em...Woof woof woof woof! I do manage to get my live college football fix, however, as I married into the USNA family almost seven years ago. Being right up the road from Annapolis, we have season tickets. I certainly enjoyed Saturday's game...not only a win against the ECU (so sad for my old roommate Pat, who came up to visit us and cheer for his Pirates), but a NIGHT game! Woo hoo! Always a special treat! 🙂 Gooooo Navy...Beat Army! Have fun everybody!

It is indeed the most exciting event of the year. I remember when I was in college. We would usually watch these guys for practice and well you know most college girls would do. Get really flirty with those cute ones. Those were the college years.

The season has begun and we're looking forward towards another invitation to the SEC championship and NO Monday night games! 'Dem Tigahs are looking strong! I cannot wait to get down to Baton Rouge, tailgate ALL day and then enjoy another Tigers victory with 92,000 "family" friends! GEAUX TIGERS!

And a heartfelt Boomer Sooner to all! So glad to see Texas have a little controversy this week with the recently arrested player. After all- I've heard all I can hear about Bomar- I'm just glad he's gone if he was a trouble maker. We Sooners are happy to share the wealth, and see some other immature athletes get the headlines and smack talk for a while!

WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was Ron Dayne or Bubba Franks your 1st pick in FFL

Gee Roy, I haven't seen "War Eagle" in writing since I worked on the ramp for Delta. Some misguided ramper in Atlanta would write "WAR EAGLE" inside the cargo bin of every aircraft. Brian

It's a lot of fun to cheer for your favorite team and bash the opposing team but let's all remember bashing individual players is not nice. Those players have parents, grandparents and other relatives. You never know , one of them may be your co-worker. Thanks

Well I was gonna hold off until I saw the "War Eagle". Confusion abounds at Auburn/Opelika Community College. Tigers? Eagles? Plainsmen? "Fear the thumb"? More like "Fear the Dumb"... "Then I said to them what is this HIGH PLACE you go to? And they said it is called BAMAh to this day." Ezekiel 20:29 ROLL TIDE

I wasn't bashing either player. It was a joke on Jill's fantasy football picks, She loves Wisconisn and Green Bay packers.

Roy was jealous of my fantasy football league drafts! No fantasy team this year, but I love PJ Hill, tailback, from Wisconsin.
