I wanted to share an awesome experience my husband Tom and I had on October 4 at the BeFORE Social. This special event is hosted by Southwest Airlines on the night before the annual LUV Classic Golf Tournament & Party and is attended by Southwest Leaders, LUV Classic donation recipients, and Platinum Sponsors. The LUV Classic supports over 129 charities and invests more than $17 million into life-changing programs and services for children and their families, which makes it the perfect way to ring in the season of giving!

We were invited to share some live music that evening by Musicians On Call (MOC) to help celebrate the partnership Southwest and MOC have shared since 2017. It was our pleasure to perform and bring awareness about MOC to the audience at the BeFORE Social and the heartfelt impact they make in the many lives, hospitals, and communities they serve. We love volunteering with MOC, and could not have been more thrilled about this opportunity!

MOC’s mission is to bring live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families, and caregivers in healthcare facilities across the United States. They believe in the healing power of music and began this nonprofit organization in 1999. In the nearly 20 years since, they have hosted more than 675,000 bedside performances. They added performances to Children’s Health Dallas in 2016 and UT Southwestern in 2017, and have hosted 3,600 bedside performances at those locations since then.

Tom and I were thrilled to partner with MOC, as we, too, believe in the power of music. We’ve witnessed how a simple song can change the mood and atmosphere of a hospital room, and can affect the experience of patients and caregivers alike by bringing joy, love, and hope for a few moments of their hospital stay.

We are always so humbled when someone allows us into their most vulnerable space to sing for them. It’s amazing how people respond so positively and demonstrate just how deeply music can touch one’s soul. We have witnessed both tears and smiles, and have heard amazing stories from these wonderful people.

Through MOC, there exists a deeper connection that really can’t be explained. Sometimes it is the patient that is most moved, while other times it is the caregiver or nurse; but it is always the music that opens the door to the experience and healing power!

This is why I was so honored when Southwest introduced Musicians On Call that evening to my Southwest Family and allowed me and my husband to represent both organizations at the BeFORE Social. Tom and I are so grateful to have the opportunity to give back to our community thanks to Southwest’s dedication to demonstrating their Servant’s Heart.
