The Southwest Rink at Skyline Park was anything but cold this winter!  Despite freezing temperatures, eager children and adults alike visited the rink to take a spin on the ice and warm up. The rink’s sixth season came to a close on Monday, but not without leaving a mark in the record books. Since opening Thanksgiving Week, the rink welcomed more than 56,000 skaters—beating last year’s record by 15 percent and making it the largest attendance in its history. Here are a few more milestones to celebrate:Rink 15-16 RHODES-4
  • Rink visitors were encouraged to bring a book to donate to Children’s Hospital Colorado in exchange for free skate rentals. The Southwest rink collected 88 donated books this season.
  • Love was in the air! 10 couples said, “YES” and got engaged at the Southwest Rink.
  • The Rink has welcomed more than 268,000 skaters since opening six years ago.
One of the highlights of the season was painting the rink orange and blue to cheer on the home team for the Big Game. Hundreds of football fans gathered to watch former running back Reggie Rivers and the Montbello High School Drumline pump up the crowd. The event brought the Denver community together and Southwest was thrilled to be a part of it. As the cheers quiet and winter boots get packed away, the rink says goodbye to one the most memorable seasons. However, we are already excited to bring the Denver community a home for warm memories in the midst of a cold winter again next season.
