This post is authored by Nate Mulder and Jordan Womack, who are Employees in our Revenue Management and Pricing Department. With so many exciting destinations to enjoy this Independence Day weekend, you may have trouble deciding where exactly to jet off to – but have no fear, below are some of the top destinations for Southwest Customers this year! 19777675 - magic kingdom castle in disney world in orlando
  • Orlando (MCO) – Southwest is the largest carrier at MCO with 120 daily flights from more than 40 destinations! Nate recommends heading over to the Walt Disney World Resort and catching the special “Disney’s Celebrate America – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” at the Magic Kingdom or a special conclusion to Epcot’s IllumniNations: Reflections of Earth that will feature “The Heartbeat of Freedom” (a 5-minute patriotic firework finale). Feel like dancing the night away? Head over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the “Rockin’ 4th of July Celebration” that will feature fireworks with a rock’n’roll soundtrack! Make sure you arrive early as the parks can get very crowded before these special firework displays. Oh… and make sure you stop by to tell his best pal, Mickey Mouse, “Hello!”
  • Los Angeles (BUR, LAX, LGB, ONT, SNA) – Southwest has the largest number of departures and carries the greatest amount of domestic Passengers in the LA Basin, making it an easy destination to enjoy, whether you are going to the Inland Empire, San Fernando Valley, or those famous So-Cal beaches. Jordan recommends hopping the ferry to Catalina Island from San Pedro or Long Beach and spending the day enjoying the whimsical town of Avalon. For Independence Day, the town is a flurry of activity from a golf cart and dinghy parade, to a beach club party, with a fantastic fireworks display over Avalon Harbor at 9:00 p.m. capping off the activities.

  • Denver (DEN) - Another top destination for Southwest this Independence Day is the ‘Mile High City’, where we offer 199 daily flights from 56 destinations. Whether it’s taking in the sights and sounds of the city or heading out to enjoy everything that Mother Nature has to offer. Nate recommends enjoying a full day hiking or an adventurous drive along the beautiful Trail Ridge Road at the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, CO (only an hour and a half from Denver). On July 3, catch the Denver Independence Day Fireworks at 8:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Park, Broadway, and Colfax.

  • Las Vegas (LAS) –Southwest is (you guessed it) the number one carrier in Vegas with over 215 daily flights from 59 unique destinations. Las Vegas is known for its extravagance and Independence Day weekend is no different, with fireworks and parties planned for Friday-Monday. Jordan recommends checking out the Neon Museum, a collection of the old marquees and signs from Las Vegas of yore that make great backdrops for selfies and other Instagram-worthy opportunities. For fireworks, make time for the fireworks display outside Caesar’s Palace on July 3.
As we celebrate our nation’s freedom this Independence Day, we honor and thank the courageous men and women dedicated to preserving it! We wish you safe travels and a wonderful holiday weekend!
