Every parent struggles, and a part of my struggle is my own anxiety, stemming from never knowing when and what may cause my child to have a breakdown. One morning, as I was lying in bed, a passing thought inspired me to make a promise to myself. I decided I would do something I’ve always wanted to do every year on my birthday—essentially crossing an item off my proverbial bucket list. Anyone could foreseeably eat breakfast in Houston, lunch in San Antonio, and dinner in Dallas—it would be a great day trip! I figured I could put it on my bucket list and try it someday. Keeping a promise to yourself is more difficult than it sounds, but that day finally arrived this summer.
