Happy National STEM Day! The Campus Reach Team at Southwest Airlines is committed to encouraging students of all ages to realize their passions in the realm of science, technology, engineering, and math. The Team recently hosted Aviation Days in Denver and Houston, and will host the event once more in Dallas this weekend, to introduce local students in third through eighth grade to STEM careers in aviation. Read more to hear from Structural Mechanic Nikki Sereika, who lends her time to Aviation Days and encourages students to pursue careers in STEM.
To mark the occasion, Boeing hosted a ribbon cutting and signing ceremony at their Seattle Delivery Center. On hand to officially accept the 737th (N8533S) were Southwest’s Managers of Aircraft Field Services Bill Rogers and Peggy Hain.
Southwest Airlines started in 1971 as a mighty airline with only three aircraft. Last Thursday, almost 46 years later, we reached an exciting Southwest milestone by taking delivery of our 737th brand new 737!
Since Southwest Airlines is the launch Customer for Boeing’s 737-8 (MAX), we were able to have a test aircraft operate in our network for five days in September as it went through hundreds of evaluations in what is called a Service Ready Operational Validation exercise. Congratulations to the Teams who made this important validation exercise a success!
