I chalked it up to some blip related to my ticket or the odd chance a lot of conventioneers or golfers had bought expensive tickets back to Dallas after a week of work or play. I knew I could board slightly earlier at the end of the A group. Still, I wonder how often the computers are having brain freeze and are totally disregarding the usual A/A+ check-in privilege. Seems there ought to be some safety nets in place to avoid that but who knows. That is a little weird for your ALP position to be nest to the EBCI - are you sure that all of your account info was linked to the ticket? I would double-check that your status printed on your boarding pass, and that you earned points, etc. As for the fallback, I think that is the "A61" boarding position. I have heard most gate agents do A-list first, then families and other groups so I think that was atypical for your flight to be after those groups...but I'm usually fixated on family boarding or long since boarded if traveling solo so I may not have noticed.

High A and single digit B boarding positions aren't too shabby, especially if it's a heavy business traveler (A-List) route. Impossible to say what you would have received without EBCI but for not having to remember to check-in exactly 24 hours prior, those boarding positions seem pretty good to me. --TheMiddleSeat Feel free to point it out if you see someone obviously not following the program, in some cases these may be simply unaware and then the gate agent will either catch them or not. Othertimes it may be someone deliberately trying to sneak on, and again either caught or not but if you point it out maybe they'll give up the attempt. A third case might be that they asked for some special dispensation to board with someone else which may be given sometimes, i.e. their spouse was right in front or something. Anyway - it doesn't have to be confrontational, just ask the person what their position is as you are trying to decide if you are in front or in back of them, just the facts. If they say "B40" then maybe they just need help getting to the right spot. Either way it would be behind you and the next person behind you can have the same negotiation if necessary.

That's a little strange - since when you check-in for your first flight, you technically can "jump the line" to check-in to your next flight a little bit earlier than 24-hours prior so often you'll see the later connecting flights tend to have better positions than your first one. I guess in this case the connecting route is a busy one with lots of A-listers. That's a good sign - the A-list "business people" will tend to crowd the front of the plane so they can get off faster leaving more whole rows in the rear. I still think you'll be fine. And if no one had mentioned it yet, sometimes there is an option for upgraded boarding position for a fee at the gate, if available. I don't know that it would be necessary for you two - I think you'll be fine at low B's, but if it helps your anxiety then maybe splurge on it to get better posiitions and not worry about it.

This community is customer to customer, so I recommend that you call back to the customer relations number: Customer Relations 1-855-234-4654 From this link: https://www.southwest.com/contact-us/contact-us.html?clk=GFOOTER-CUSTOMER-CONTACT-US I'm sorry to hear about this experience, its not what many of us expect from Southwest. Hopefully there is some identification on your luggage so that it can be returned, and/or fill out a new lost luggage form. https://live.nettracer.aero/southwest-paxview/lostandfound/landing.do That's a tough situation where you know that you want to carry on due to the contents of the luggage, but then are forced to gate check due to lack of overhead bin space. If you can find the contact numbers, maybe call the baggage office at the two airports, I guess one was MDW and maybe try the one that the airplane went to next - although after five days those items should be on their way to Scottsboro, AL to the lost and found facility.

I would feel bad asking but she's flying to my connection so I don't have to deal with as much anxiety lol First off don't feel bad asking, but don't be upset if people aren't responsive or unfavorable. But anyway, I'd say good chance still at that point, one of you being in the middle seat. Have her board at B07 and find two spots together, she should be able to hold off the hordes for ten more positions. I've observed mixed bag on asking people to move - people will move around a little, especially if they aren't settled - and also if they are moving one aisle for another or changing a middle to an aisle or window, it isn't like you'll be asking someone to move out of the exit row window to a middle seat 20 rows back. But I think you'll be okay if you head towards the back. Do you know if it is a 737-700 or -800? The -800 has 175 seats, so even if all of the A's are filled that's sixty seats, some pre-boards, family boarding, maybe some through passengers - you may be looking at a half-full plane at B7 which would be plenty of spots left, but even on a 737-700 the front fills up solid while there are whole rows in the back, probably okay.

I might need to change all 3 flights to later in the year. If the later flights are less expensive, how will the 2 different payment methods be credited (card and another person's Rapid Rewards points)? If by voucher, what date does the expiration of the voucher originate from? Thank you! Excess points will go back to the account holder's RR total - hopefully what you actually did was have the family member book your ticket instead of transferring the points which takes a hefty toll. If not, do it that way next time to save the total number of points. If these are WGA fares, then you'll be issued "Travel Funds" for use up to one year from the original date of purchase. If the fares are refundable then you can receive credit back to original form of payment, except that you can't refund back to a voucher in which case you will also get travel funds. Hopefully someone else can chime in on expiration dates - I'm not clear myself on how the voucher works - I believe when you book air travel then the voucher is consumed and its history is irrelvant - then if you make future changes that result in a refund or credit you end up with travel funds presumably valid one year from the date that you booked the ticket. I don't think the expiration of the voucher would carry forward after booking, even if you refund a portion to travel funds the clock would start anew.

Go to a self service kiosk where you would enter your confirmation number, rapid rewards number, or your drivers license it would then let you print your boarding passes 2. You could go to the full service line and show your ID and they can print it for you along with checking any bags 3. You can see a skycap agent (where avalible) if your being dropped off and its usually pretty quick. Personally I like the self service kiosk as it is quick and easy. After all of these flights in the past several years, I still have yet to use the new self-service tag and drops - I'm always either using curbside or head on in for full-service for whatever reason.

Lobby for rules that are fair, but require accountability and allow for common sense. The future landscape is that companies like Southwest that don't deal directly in healthcare won't want to have any custody of customers' health data, or liability to interpret information presented to them. A higher level screening in this case will probably mean "more government" rather than less.

If you have a convenient way to write down the six-character confirmation number I feel like that is the most direct route to call up your boarding pass. The scanners may also read your credit card, ID, or passport to confirm identity and bring up your boarding pass. If you check luggage curbside they will look at your ID and call up your reservation by name before printing the passes. (I love curbside!)

@TheMiddleSeat wrote: It's not Southwest that you need to be worried about which only requires ID to check a bag. They usually glance so quickly at it, checking just to see if the name matches the bag, that I doubt they will would notice it was expired. If you are not checking a bag Southwest will never look at YOU identification for a domestic flight. TSA on the other hand does seem to check expiration dates on identification. If the expired passport is the only ID you have then I would plan on getting some additional questions from TSA when you go through security, much like they do for people that forget or lose their ID. You can read the more about this at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification If you are traveling internationally then forget it, you're not going to be allowed to travel with an expired passport. --TheMiddleSeat Did this or any other comment in the thread answer your question? Please take a moment and click the "Accept as Solution" button on the comments you found most helpful, this will be a big help to any future Community Members who have a similar question! Just to clarify a little - TSA will not accept an expired passport or driver's license as valid ID. TSA may allow you to travel without a valid ID after a brief interview. Questions and/or documentation will be discussed, which could include you providing your expired ID as supporting information - so indirectly it may still help to have it, or they may not ask for it at all. You could also bring utilty bills or other documents to help support your identity. As @TheMiddleSeat said this does not apply if you are intending to travel internationally - you must get it renewed in that case.

I think this is a very good policy and now that I know that, I will give up five minutes of sleep to ensure I board in my designated place. My wife and I had an experience at LAS one time where we got to the gate and were surprised at 30 minutes til that the prior flight was just wrapping up boarding. I took this flight quite a few times last summer, and they were always completly full. I have family in the Baltimore area and I travel there a lot. I don't want to have to use Alaska's PDX to BWI flight, as Southwest is so much better, but it's a bummer to see this route being offered so infrequently this year... Also, I'm pretty sure this route got downgraded before the 737 MAX grounding, so I don't think that's the reason for this. I've never seen anyone from Southwest come on here to explain route changes, but didn't want your question to sit here with no response either - as a customer-to-customer forum the only facts we know are that if you want to reach Southwest directly, use the contact us link on the website and send them your interest in having that route restored. Southwest may collect info from this community from time to time, but the canned response is that routes are adjusted due to changing needs, etc. The network is always shifting and with a fixed number of planes available they must have found some better use of equipment and people - either a shorter route from PDX that makes more money, or competition has changed the landscape on that particular route, or it wasn't full on the other days you didn't fly - it is hard to say for sure. With BWi being one of Southwest's major airports the constraint (whatever it may be) was probably on the PDX end.

But why would they fly to SFO when OAK and SJC are right there? Was the Southwest terminal at SFO originally AirTran's terminal and Southwest just decided to take it over after AirTran was purchased by them? It's just a curiosity of mine. It would be cool to find how the history of Southwest at SFO. In fact Southwest had briefly abandoned SFO but returned in 2007 - I'm not aware of AirTran serving SFO or not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_International_Airport#cite_note-58 The delays during poor weather (among other reasons) caused some airlines, especially low-cost carriers such as Southwest Airlines, to shift all of their service from the airport to Oakland and San Jose. However, Southwest eventually returned to SFO in 2007.[58] So to answer your question - I would say that daily OAK service is the larger portion for Southwest so the Bay Area is actually served to a higher level from the secondary airports OAK and SJC, just as they have chosen to do in other markets such as MDW, DAL, HOU, LGA/EWR, FLL, and others where this is possible.

Now, if you don't have access to an organization such as AAA then booking through Southwest may be the best option. In general, it pays to shop around as one option may be cheaper for some bookings and then other options might be better for others. Lots of variables. It also pays to recheck prices after booking, just like Southwest flights prices do drop and you can rebook as long as you didn't choose a prepaid rate. --TheMiddleSeat Costco is also very competitive, you get a second driver free all of the time, and the cancelation is about as generous as Southwest's 10 minutes prior.
