If given the chance, would you drop everything to tee-off at the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, the nation’s foremost municipal golf course and home of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship?
That was the very question asked by PGA Tour Pro Kenny Perry, Southwest Airlines, and Adams Golf, to four unsuspecting golfers on the course at Houston’s Wildcat Golf Club. Once we convinced these golfers that this was no practical joke—that we truly wanted them to leave immediately to jump on a plane bound for San Diego—they overcame their initial hesitance, evaluated their immediate life commitments, and ultimately decided to make a dream trip a reality.
“Par-none” these guys were on board and were not going to let this opportunity of a lifetime slip away. What immediately followed was a “beg for permission” call to the wives; with luck on our side, we were on our way to Southern California. But first, Adams Golf had another surprise, setting the lucky FOREsome up with brand new sets of Adams XTD Cross Cavity Irons, Pro Hybrids and a handsome Golf Bag, fully preparing them for our “trajectory” on Southwest Airlines to the World’s Finest City.
After a beautiful “drive” from San Diego International Airport, we arrived at Torrey Pines, where our golfers had a chance to take in the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean at sunset. Back at the hotel, Adams Golf provided a custom golf outfit, including shoes, socks, pants, belt, polo shirt, jacket, and hat—they were ready to go!
Looking like they just walked out of Golf Digest, our golfers were ready to tee off at beautiful Torrey Pines. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, as it was a very cold and wet morning. Fortunately, she felt the LUV and allowed the skies to clear up so we could fulfill the dream. Cheers, laughter, high-fives, dropping to their knees, and even a cartwheel were some of the emotional moments experienced during a round of 18 holes with breathtaking views.
Hole in one? Eagle? Double eagle? Maybe not this round, but it was an honor to offer these grateful gentlemen this “ace” of an opportunity to play some classic championship golf.
Take a moment to relish in their joy by watching their story. Southwest Airlines and Adams Golf are grateful to create such an amazing experience and look forward to many more surprise and delight moments as we renew our second-year partnership. From Southwest Airlines and Adams Golf, wishing you many “sweet spots” this golf season!

The Eyes of Texas are upon Southwest Airlines as we announce a five-year sponsorship with The University of Texas. Done deal. Beginning this Fall, Southwest Airlines will be the Official Airline Sponsor of UT Athletics and the Texas Exes. What does this all mean? For starters, we are following Coach Mack Brown’s orders to “Come Early, Be Loud, and Stay Late.” 40 days before the Texas Longhorns kickoff, Southwest celebrated big with a “Texas-Sized” celebration at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, as an already legendary Athletic Program just got better with Southwest Airlines as part of the Longhorns Family. Can I get a “Hook ‘em Horns!”? Be on the lookout for our red belly beauty all over the Forty Acres. If you have the opportunity to make it to Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium to watch the Longhorns Football Team, you will see Southwest Airlines featured on the magnificent videoboard as well as numerous other digital signs around the stadium. Pay special attention to our in-stadium promotional display and on-field challenge. With 858 wins and ranked 2nd as the winningest football team in the NCAA, the Horns hardly disappoint—especially at home. Throw your horns up and show your Southwest pride, as this partnership was simply meant to be. Come November, head across campus to the Frank Erwin Center to see some Texas Longhorns hoops and our beautiful courtside signage and on-court promotion. Later, beginning in February 2013, take a stroll across I-35 to Disch-Falk Field to watch the legendary NCAA Division I College Baseball Program. The Southwest Airlines sign will be prominently displayed behind home plate for all home games as the Longhorns Baseball team fights their way back to Omaha. After all, the Horns hold the record for the most appearances at the College World Series and most individual games won. Sorry to boast, but I love my Longhorns! Okay, I’m not done yet … Southwest also will have a presence at all regular season home Soccer Matches and we’ll have permanent signage in Gregory Gym for all home Volleyball Games. Finally, if you happen to flip through a Longhorns Playbook, Yearbook, Applause Magazine, or The Alcalde, check out our spirited print ads. In print, in-arena, in-stadium … the Spirit of Southwest will have tremendous presence among arguably Austin’s biggest passion point—the University of Texas. With all this exposure you would think this is enough, but not for this Champion Airline. Southwest Airlines also will be an Official Corporate Sponsor of the Ex-Students’ Association of the University of Texas, the Texas Exes. This is huge as we will have opportunities to communicate with UT Alumni through print publications, direct mail, and digital methods including e-blasts to this massive, elite database, reminding alumni everywhere they are just a Southwest Airlines flight away from coming home to the Forty Acres. So why sponsor University of Texas Athletics? This Sponsorship just makes sense, especially as Austin continues to grow. From 2000-2010, the population of Austin grew by more than 20 percent. With an increased population, we must increase our Southwest presence. This year, Southwest began new routes from Austin to Atlanta and Washington Reagan, as well as seasonal service to Portland. Southwest currently operates 57 weekday departures from Austin, serving 21 nonstop destinations. With increased capacity of 12.5% since last summer and more daily flights, daily seats, and nonstop destinations than any other carrier in Austin, Southwest can get you to the away games easier than any other carrier! Last year, Southwest carried 38 percent of the domestic market from Austin, ranking #1 in market share. As I mentioned earlier, this Champion Airline will not stop … we want to increase that market share and revel in the passion of Austinites by sponsoring the home team. If you ever question the local passion, just count the number of UT logos you see around AUS. So there you have it … another WIN for Southwest Airlines as Texas Flight joins Texas Fight. It is a great “play” for Southwest Airlines and our stake in Austin. Get your Horns Up, as we have our Wheels Up and we’re ready to kick off this partnership—a partnership that’s as solid and steadfast as Bevo himself! Southwest Airlines and the University of Texas Athletics—‘Til Gabriel Blows His Horn!

I’m going to Disney World! Or shall I say, I’m going BACK to Disney World! I can’t express how excited I am to head back to Disney this year to The Art of Animation resort. Last year, our Disney friends shared their newest Star Tours adventure with us – it’s an intergalactic 3D adventure inspired by 'Star Wars' at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park - it was a magical, out of this world experience to say the least. This May, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opens, which will create the sensation of being a character inside some of the best-loved stories of all time. This whimsical new Resort hotel is divided into four immersive courtyard sections, each one inspired by one of four animated films: Finding Nemo (May 31) Cars (June 18) The Lion King (August 10) The Little Mermaid (September 15) My son, Mitch, is a HUGE fan of Cars, and the thought of him being a character in his all-time favorite movie alongside Lightning McQueen and Mater would be equivalent to winning the Piston Cup! Take the easy road to victory lane by planning your Disney vacation at www.southwest.com/Disney. While you’re there, enter for your chance to win a Magical Storybook Vacation. Concerned about space for your own pit crew? KA-CHOW! There will be no shortage of space in Radiator Springs for your family once the resort opens. The first three phases will offer family suites that provide just the right amount of extra room many families need to spread out in comfort. We only need room for four, but the family suites will actually sleep up to six! You can follow our adventures at Disney World throughout the weekend by tuning into our Twitter account @SouthwestAir, we’ll be posting updates about all the latest and greatest news from Disney World!

When I was expecting my first child, I looked forward to many milestone moments: the first laugh, first “mama,” first steps, first Birthday party, and of course, our first family Christmas – including the first photo with Santa. My son, Mitch, was born in January, so I had to wait almost a full year to experience the much-awaited first photo op with jolly ol’ St. Nick. I spent weeks searching for the perfect outfit for my little guy. In December 2009, we went to the Dallas Arboretum for Mitch’s first encounter with Santa. The moment was tense – for me and my husband anyway. Would he cry? Would he throw a fit? Would he run scared? It was anybody’s guess. We were prepared for rain, but hoping for sunshine. In the end, he actually LOVED Santa, and although he tried to pull Santa’s beard off, I think Santa loved Mitch, too. I could not have dreamed for a more perfect first photo with Santa! Mitch had a beautiful smile and looked so precious in his Christmas outfit. The picture is now framed and will always be one of my favorite Christmas decorations. Last November, we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Quinn. Again I looked forward to our new family tradition. We bundled up our sweet babies and once again headed to the Dallas Arboretum for pictures with Santa. This time, Mitch didn’t love Santa as much and the crying started the minute he was placed on Santa’s lap. This set off a chain reaction of crying, and so here we were with two highly upset babies and Santa. My husband and I jumped in to add some smiles to the picture, calm the kids, and protect Santa from our wailing kiddos. Not as perfect as the year before, but nonetheless a treasured Christmas memory. This year, we shall see how our photo with Santa will turn out. Whether it’s two screaming kids or “bigger than life” smiles, I will always look forward to the yearly photos with Santa. This holiday season, Southwest Airlines and Microsoft have once again partnered for the Picture Perfect Holiday on the Fly. From December 13th through December 24th, be on the lookout for that jolly ol' guy in 21 of our airports. Elves will snap a few photos and then their IT-counterpart elves will walk you through how Windows 7 can create the perfect picture of your family. Your photo op with Santa is free, and you walk away with the perfect picture and a $20 discount off your next flight on Southwest Airlines. All pictures will be downloaded to a site where you will have the ability to share with family and friends. Visit www.southwest.com/freeholidayphotos to check out Santa’s locations. While you’re there, enter our sweepstakes where we are giving away a laptop computer each day, with a grand prize of a year of free travel on Southwest Airlines. Dancing With the Stars Co-Host Brooke Burke Snaps a Family Pic With St. Nick! At Southwest Airlines, we love to share the holidays with our Customers and are excited to bring you this time-honored tradition. From our family to yours, we wish you many wonderful milestone moments!

Just as I finish mourning the end of football season, March rolls in and my blood starts pumping again. Yep, it is that wonderful time of year with the college basketball championship, and I love everything about it! I usually treat the first Thursday and Friday of the tournament as a personal holiday, taking off work to watch the first round all day at a local watering hole with my friends. There’s something about watching these potential Cinderella teams fight for the big upset in the first round. Sure, a #16 seed has never beaten a #1 seed, but a handful of #15 seeds have beaten #2 seeds! But at least one #12 seed beats a #5 seed. It’s crazy, I tell ya! A few years ago I headed to Vegas to watch the games at a sports book. If you've never been, I highly recommend it! Back in 2003, I headed down to New Orleans for the finals. I saw my beloved Texas Longhorns loose to Syracuse Orangemen. Carmelo Anthony could not miss a shot and we lost 84 to 95. Though we lost, it was a blast and an experience I will never forget. Typically, I play around three brackets and my picks are personal. I tend to pick teams that I like regardless of the seed. First and foremost, I always pick the Horns because of my alumni allegiance. Now the not so obvious picks. For example, a few of my cousins are KU alums, so the Jayhawks usually make it to my Elite Eight. My roommate from college did her residency at Duke, and so they usually make the cut. Both KU and Duke play great ball, so it’s pretty easy to justify my “personal” predictions. I also like the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Their program has come a long way in the last decade, now being included amongst the country’s elite programs. Moreover, I did some work in Spokane and could not get over how nice everyone is in that town. Other teams are hit and miss. If LSU makes it to the tournament I cheer for them because my husband went there. Better luck next year Tigers. Not even a NIT bid? A couple of years ago I actually placed in a bracket! Pretty cool when it finally happens, right? Most years, I’m not so lucky, but I still make my predictions every year. One year, I got creative and thought I would draw names out of a hat--almost literally. It was actually a cup, and I was on a Southwest flight. I tore up napkins and wrote the names of all 64 teams in the big dance, and picked 32. My first round winners. The rest of the teams were out, and so I continued to dwindle it down from there. Because you never know what will happen, I thought I might actually have a chance. Well, my bracket was an utter disaster, and I finished in last place out of hundreds of entrants. The upside is that I did win my entry fee back, so the only thing I really lost was my dignity. Well today(the day after “Selection Sunday”), it is that time to sit down, do some research and get my brackets ready. Some of you may spend countless hours doing your research to help you with your bracket. You may close your eyes and pick each team. Or you may even try the “mascot vs. mascot in reality” method. Either way, I can’t wait for Thursday and maybe this will be my year to win at least one of the brackets. As long as I don’t try the “hat trick” again… Check out Southwest Airlines Bracket Challenge here. It is free and you have nothing to lose, just a chance to win great prizes. Enjoy!
