I agree to a certain degree but for other reasons. I realize that seats 1-15 are always available for upgrades. I choose to use Early Bird because I do not always have the opportunity to "check in" 24 hours prior to a flight. But yes, Early Bird is no longer an effective means of guaranteeing a proper seat.
The biggest problem is that people will pay for one early bird seat and then "hold" seats for the rest of their party. It's ridiculous.
I now go out of my way to challenge people. If somebody is attempting to hold three seats I will tell them that I am sitting there. That person has paid for a single seat and obviously does not have to move. But I'll be darned if they are going to prevent me from sitting there.
If you want to hold a row of seats then go to the back of the plane. Otherwise, I'll be sitting next to you. The flight attendants know the ruse. They know what's going on and they choose to ignore it and/or be complicent it this ruse. That's unacceptable. Stand your ground I say.
I will not try to break up families or anything like that, but again, you are more than welcome to grab a row in the back of the plane to ensure that you sit together.
I have contacted SWA several times regarding this matter and they consistently fail to remedy the situation. They typically sent out a reply indicating that people enjoy the open seating policy. This response ignores the situation. It's a pivot move that politicians take.
I used to really enjoy flying SWA. The employees were friendly. The flights were on time. The experience was good. Things have really taken a 180 degree turn. I am at the point where I am going to cancel my SWA card, burn up all my points, and fly with a different carrier.

If the airline starts charging those customers of size for the 2nd seat they won’t purchase it and you will in turn be uncomfortable because they would be next to you encroaching on your space
Alaska has a policy (or did when I looked in to it several years back) where as long as there was an open seat when the aircraft took off they would refund a COS extra seat
if a plane has open seats why not make everyone comfortable? Full flight try to get the COS on a flight where they can be comfortable without upsetting someone by bumping them
everyone should be able to fly comfortably and the airlines are making Seats smaller even if we were all fit and healthy we will soon all expand to the seat next to us with the smaller seats by day

My last return trip to BWI with checked baggage in late August was an improved experience.
Not great but definitely reasonable. At the time, I was basically thrilled it took such a "short" time for my bags to arrive, around 30 minutes.
Safe travels

I haven't checked luggage in over 25 years. After the second time my luggage did not arrive, once again with very specific clothing required, a suit for an international presentation & a banquet down the first time, that was the very last time I ever checked luggage.
I do love your thinking. It's a great idea if it works for you. However, never have the luxury to sit around and wait for 30 rows of people to deplane. But if I had the time it sounds very entertaining.

Credit Card Signup Bonus: Consider applying for a new credit card that offers a generous signup bonus. Many travel rewards credit cards provide a substantial number of points as a bonus after you meet a minimum spending requirement within a specific timeframe. Ensure you can meet the spending requirement without going into debt.
Online Shopping Portals: Many airline loyalty programs offer online shopping portals where you can earn bonus points for purchases made through their links. Check if Southwest has a shopping portal and use it for your online shopping.
Dining Programs: Some airlines have dining programs that allow you to earn points when you dine at participating restaurants. Sign up for Southwest's dining program if they have one in your area.
Refer-a-Friend: Some credit cards offer referral bonuses when you refer friends or family members who are approved for the card. Check if your credit card has a referral program and refer friends to earn extra points.
Hotel Stays: If you have upcoming hotel stays, make sure you're earning points through the hotel's loyalty program. Some hotels have partnerships with airlines, allowing you to transfer hotel points to airline miles.
Rapid Rewards Shopping: Southwest has a shopping portal called Rapid Rewards Shopping. You can earn bonus points for shopping through this portal. Look for special promotions and offers to maximize your points.

I'm on board here. Been A-List Preferred as long as it's been out there. I don't think lifetime Companion Pass is realistic. There is a cost there. But making longtime A-List Preferred customers lifetime A-List Preferred costs Southwest nothing. I was very loyal to Southwest and Marriott. Marriott made me Platinum Elite for life. Still waiting on Southwest. I did run this idea up the flagpole with them when they were struggling and was told it would be discussed via an email. Nothing yet.

Yes, you should have sequential boarding positions that benefit from A-List.
*except if you purchased a Business Select fare, then you will not board together.

Hi - please add new route into Medford! The area is beautiful and we go there at least 4 times a year. There is hiking, river for kayaking, fishing, and multiple vineyards. The United and Alaska flights are typically full - especially during Shakespeare festival. I have been with Southwest since 1993 and travel a lot for business. Flying into Medford is one of few times I don’t fly Southwest. Portland and Sac are too far away. Eugene is closer but it is 4 hours away on treacherous mountain road - in winter it was horrible- we tried. Please add flight into Medford.

@iiflyswa hmm, that is strange. My experience is the annual fee posts on the first statement after the actual anniversary date so in your case that would put your anniversary date sometime in September, which makes your experiences the timing of your credits even more odd. I'm glad you were able to get multiple credits!

I get a mobile error like this all the time, but it always works immediately on the next try so it doesn't sound like that's the issue you are having.

It is laughable to say an acceptable solution is to transfer points to another Rapid Rewards member when that so-called solution (transfer) costs one cent per point. That means a 25,000 point transfer would cost $250. Southwest currently says 25,000 points have a value of $300 (83 points per dollar). This means that if you transfer 25,000 points to someone else, it will cost you $250 to give them $300. That's not what I call LUV from an airline that is struggling to survive a recent self inflicted nuclear disaster.
Of course the solution does not involve transferring points.
The person with the points can simply buy the ticket for the other person - thus retaining full value of the points.

Involuntary bump can happen to anyone, it does not limit to companions. I've enjoyed many free flights from my companion pass and no other airline provides such a beneficial perk. It appears you obtained the companion pass via a promotional offer on credit card sign up. The standard expiration is the remainder of the year you earned it in AND the entire next calendar year. That's a pretty sweet deal. You're welcome to do what you want, I just don't agree with the thinking.

Just seeing this, thanks for your response. I meant uncomfortably warm while sitting on the tarmac, not okay, but understandable, but then not cooling the plane off in flight - not acceptable. Yes, something they need to change overall. It was not just this flight. The return trip was unfortunately the same.

I have the same question. I receive a very specific number if “action based bonus” points of 3,624. This is in addition to the posting of points from my credit card statement that included individual bonuses on internet purchased, Rapid Rewards partner, Southwest Travel. The only thing I think it could be are the 25% bonus on all credit card purchases associated with A-List membership. But I can’t re-calculate the number of bonus points by applying 25% to any number I see on any statement.. But if this isn’t the 25% bonus, I don’t know what ir is.

Still having the same problem. Clearing browser cache did not resolve.
I'm on a new Macbook. Purchased Internet, used internet (which was awesome flying to Hawaii) but now I want to get back to the movies. Have tried southwestwifi.com and getconnected.southwestwifi.com but they just direct me to https://www.southwest.com/inflight-entertainment-portal/
I've disconnected from the wifi network, turned off wifi and back on. I tried using Safari which I had not used during my internet access and it has the same issue. Going to turn my laptop off, have a drink and try again later.

When I log into my Chase account, on the Southwest card's section there's a dropdown menu titled "More." If you click that and choose "Rewards Dashboard" it will show you all of your benefits, including how many upgraded boardings and how much of your annual travel credit you have used. In the fine print of those two modules, it will also say the benefit "will reset after your statement closing date in MM/YYYY."
Hope this helps!
