At Southwest Airlines, we’re dedicated to helping students discover different pathways in aviation. Check out these resources and upcoming events that may inspire your child or student to pursue a career in the aviation industry.

Job Chats with Southwest Employees

We’ve developed a new program where students can learn about jobs available after graduating high school from current Southwest Employees working in those positions. Each quarter we’ll host virtual conversations highlighting a different workgroup and sharing tips for success. Our next session is Wednesday, April 12, at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. CT, featuring Ramp Agents, Material Specialists, and Aircraft Appearance Technicians. These roles don’t require a college degree and come with benefits, including unlimited space available flight privileges, a 9.3% 401(k) Company match, career mobility resources, and more! Visit our events page to register.

Part-time Job Opportunities

Students aged 16 to 17 years old can engage in aviation-related, part-time job opportunities that align with school schedules in select Southwest cities. Available jobs include Baggage Transporters, Wheelchair Pushers, and Janitorial staff. Although these aren’t jobs at Southwest, they’re a great entry point to a career in aviation with Southwest Contractors. To learn more, check out the high school part-time job opportunities section on our Kindergarten – 12th grade resource page.

OBAP ACE Academies

Southwest is honored to partner with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) and their Aerospace Career Education (ACE) Academies. ACE Academies are week-long summer programs designed to introduce middle and high school students to aviation history, the fundamentals of aerodynamics, and possible careers in aerospace. With over 35 locations across the United States, including Honolulu, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, you’ll likely find an opportunity near you. We’re excited to support events in Baltimore; Chicago; Dallas; Denver; Houston; Phoenix; Sacramento, Calif.; and Tulsa, Okla. this year. For more information and to register, visit the OBAP website.
