I almost skipped my flight. With Southwest’s no change fees and the ease of changing flights, I considered staying at work a little later to help care for a patient. Luckily, my friends urged me to leave and offered to take care of the patient instead for me.
My arrival to the airport was just in the nick of time. I received a frantic call from my boyfriend ensuring I had boarded my flight—I didn't think anything of it.
I boarded the plane just as if it was like any other normal flight … little did I know that was all about to change for me.

So the idea of creating a Southwest teddy bear was right up my alley and it was so fun to make for him.

It happened just like in the movies—boy meets girl at a sweet wedding and the two immediately hit it off. But there was just one problem: she was headed back home to Atlanta, 800 miles away, and decided to leave it with an open-ended, "What happens in Texas, stays in Texas."
It did not stay in Texas. In fact, it ended up stretching across the better part of two years—much of that time spent in the air and on Southwest runways—doing everything but staying in one place.

I always get a little nervous traveling with my five-year-old, autistic daughter, Mikaela. Every parent struggles, and a part of my struggle is my own anxiety, stemming from never knowing when and what may cause my child to have a breakdown. Luckily, on this flight, I learned I could count on Southwest to help alleviate those fears.
One morning, as I was lying in bed, a passing thought inspired me to make a promise to myself. I decided I would do something I’ve always wanted to do every year on my birthday—essentially crossing an item off my proverbial bucket list.
