My family’s love of Disney started from a young age. One of our long-running family daydreams (always talked about, but never expected) has been to buy Annual Passes to Disney. Sadly, it just never made sense as we live in New Mexico and wouldn’t be able to put it to good use. Last year, however, something rather magical happened when I earned Southwest’s Companion Pass and we were able to make that dream a reality!
When I think about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., there are several words that come to mind: civility, equality, respect, love, service, and community to name a few. Today is a great reminder of the responsibility we each have to do our part to show kindness to one another and to embrace civility, even in difficult times.
In California over the holidays, my toddler son received a power wheels Jeep as a gift from family. My mother thought we could easily return it to the store and have it reshipped to our home in Washington due to the large size, but that was sadly not the case.
As a last resort, we attempted to pack it up to ship as oversized baggage for our return trip home only to discover that wasn’t going to work. A wonderful Southwest Employee heard our dilemma and was determined to reunite us with my son’s holiday gift. In all honesty, I never expected to hear from him again...

When my Grandma fell terminally ill at 92, I went to Dallas to be with her in her final days and to support my Mom. Thanks to a chance encounter at the aiport and Southwest's open seating policy, I was able to reconnect with someone from my past after one of the most emotional weeks of my life. To this day, I swear my Grandma Bette sent Rick to be with me that day not wanting me to be alone and not wanting me to stop believing in love.
My daughter, Bella, requested we take a trip to New England to celebrate her 16th birthday. I mentioned the special celebration trip to the gate attendant hoping for a simple “Happy Birthday” greeting during the flight announcements, but received so much more!

As a first time solo-flyer, 13-year-old Nathan was a bit nervous traveling from Rochester, New York, to Tampa, Florida, without the help of his parents. For Nathan, traveling to see his grandparents was a big adventure–especially since he was making the journey all by himself!
A few months ago, Nic Jepsen, a high school student, reached out to our CEO, Gary Kelly, to ask for roundtrip airfare to see his team’s nationally-recognized science experiment rocketed into space. At Southwest, we love to inspire students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers, and our Purpose is connecting Customers to what’s important in their lives. So, we weren’t surprised to learn Gary said yes.
This fall, Southwest has celebrated Disney∙Pixar’s all-new, big-screen adventure “Coco” in a variety of ways, from local Customer activations in Mexico City, to a Customer sweepstakes, to most noticeably, a “Coco”- themed Boeing 737-700 flying throughout our system. We’ve connected many of our Customers and Employees to this inspiring film, but the most meaningful way was when Southwest made a wish happen for a little boy named Nathan.
