When I think back to 1982, I remember that Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” blared from boom boxes and Chariots of Fire took home four Academy Awards. Also in 1982, Southwest began service to Kansas City International Airport with just six daily nonstop flights.

MCI Routes

Today, Southwest is excited to celebrate 30 years of collaboration with Kansas City. We have seen much growth in our relationship with the airport! Now, Southwest offers 61 daily departures to 19 cities with additional direct or connecting service to 52 cities.

It has been a privilege to work in Kansas City with Southwest Airlines. As Station Manager, I have the opportunity to work alongside many Employees who also LUV their jobs. We still manage to have lots of fun, and we think our Customers do too!

To commemorate our 30th Anniversary, Southwest will showcase festive decorations in the gates areas and Employees will serve fresh muffins and coffee to any Customers flying in and out of Kansas City International. Along with games and free giveaways, we will also offer complimentary chair massages for Customers in the gate area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you are passing through Kansas City International today, make sure to stop by the Southwest gate areas to join in the day-long festivities and share the LUV!
