Investing in the Future of Our Communities

The other day, I was grocery shopping and I overheard a mother and daughter planning a trip to their local park—the Coppell Nature Park.  For almost two years, I’ve been a regular volunteer with Friends of Coppell Nature Park and also serve on their Board of Directors. And, while I didn’t know the family personally, I felt a sense of pride knowing that I had contributed to making their outing possible. Coppell Nature Park is a gem located just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.  It has approximately 66 acres of wooded trails, an outdoor classroom, a handicap accessible deck area, and our soon-to-be-completed Biodiversity Education Center and Butterfly Garden.  But, none of this would have been possible without thousands of volunteer hours! I often volunteer with my Coworker, Pam Graham.  Together, we ensure we log our volunteer hours because we know how crucial this is to both our Company and our cause.  Through Southwest’s Tickets for Time program, the nonprofit is awarded one roundtrip ticket for every 40 hours Pam and I volunteer.  The Friends of Coppell Nature Park have used the tickets in a raffle, and those proceeds  have helped the organization purchase tools to maintain the hiking trails; supplies to build small bridges for crossing the creeks that meander through the park; and to help fund the Biodiversity Education Center.  In the coming year, we are hoping to provide educational trunks that contain hands-on materials for use in environmental instruction. Chartiable2Both of us strongly believe in what Coppell Nature Park stands for—educating the public, especially children, on the environment and how we can keep the world fit for us and future generations to live in.  The Nature Park is like a fresh new natural canvas—each season is different and rewards anyone who is willing to share in its beauty as well spend time helping maintain it.  That’s why we volunteer—year after year. We believe it is vitally important to leave the world a better place—especially for the next generation, and we should stand up and take action for what we believe in!  What do you believe in? How are you investing in the future of your community? #LUVFromtheHeart
