The year is 1996. Just about everyone is doing the Macarena; Tom Cruise is being ordered to “Show Me the Mooneeeey”; and Southwest Airlines has just begun service at T.F. Green Airport in Providence, RI. That’s right, we’ve spent 15 wonderful years in Providence, and we’ve celebrated throughout the month of October.

We kicked off the anniversary month as an official sponsor of HarborFest, an annual arts festival in Providence.  Attendees of HarborFest stopped by the Southwest Lounge, where they relaxed and enjoyed some Southwest hospitality while watching their favorite teams on one of the four high-definition televisions.  It was a great turnout, and our New England patrons had a blast!

Additionally, throughout the entire month of October, Southwest has offered the “It’s the Right Call” sweepstakes to help commemorate our 15th anniversary.  Customers (sorry, Employees are not eligible) have the chance to win a free, two-night Orlando vacation, complete with airfare and hotel accommodations.  The sweepstakes will continue through October 31.

Today will culminate the anniversary month with a celebration at the airport to thank our awesome PVD Employees for their dedication and efforts and New England travelers for 15 years of flying Southwest Airlines.  The festivities include games, an anniversary cake, and prizes.

Southwest began service to Providence on October 27, 1996, with 14 daily nonstops to five cities.  Today, we operate 24 daily roundtrip flights to eight cities.  A very special thank you to all of our hardworking PVD Employees and loyal Customers—we appreciate you making the right call for the past 15 years.  Cheers to 15 more!
