We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do

Brooks
Retired Community Manager
It's been an eventful week here at Southwest Airlines, and not just for obvious reasons.  Spirit Week happens annually, as a way to celebrate the Company's great Culture.

During the year, we focus on exhibiting three principles: A Warrior's Spirit, a Servant's Heart, and a Fun LUV-ing Attitude.  I'm the new guy, and will be for awhile, so this is all fresh for me.  Still, I can say with confidence that Spirit Week takes our Culture to a superhuman level.

We're mostly extraverts here - you don't have to twist anybody's arm to get an example of what we're about. Below are some pictures from around the system that help illustrate my point.

Hulk Hogan exhibits Southwestamania at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. Glad he didn't show up as the Hulk who wore all dark clothes.

One of our friends at El Paso International Airport (in El Paso, TX) ushers in a plane with spirit. I think he did a high kick as Customers disembarked.

Southwest Airlines Employees gather around Headquarters in Dallas, TX for a pep rally, to hear CEO Gary Kelly speak.  Thumbs up for their Southwest cheers, too.

Southwest Employees, rooting for the Texas Longhorns, pulled this Boeing 737 to victory in the 2010 Pigskin Plane Pull.  Maybe next year, Sooners.

Did you notice any spirited Southwest Airlines Employees while you traveled this week?  Share your stories in the comments section.

Wow. That looks, fun! Does anyone know what effect the provision below between Southwest and St Joe (Panama City) will have on the perspective acquisition considering Pensacola is about 110 miles from the new Panama City airport. Is such a thing even legal in the eyes of the FAA/DOT? Southwest has agreed that it will not commence air service to any airport within 80 statute miles of the new airport during the term of the agreement. In the event Southwest starts service to any airport that is more than 80 statute miles but within 120 statute miles from the new airport during the term, Southwest and St. Joe will either negotiate a modification to the terms of the agreement to accommodate the impact of such service or the minimum revenues used in the annual break even calculations under the agreement will automatically be increased by 10%. In such event, Southwest has agreed that the air service to the new airport in Bay County would not be diminished.

My family and I flew Southwest aweek ago and had the best flights ever from Ft. Lauderdale to Las Vegas! The crew on both flights were super but I have to comment on Flight #1022 on Monday Sept 27th, the captain was very knowledgeable about areas of interest that the plane was flying over and passed this info on to the passengers, including Grand Canyon, Hoover damn and many others. Years ago a pilot always did that, but not anymore! My family and I enjoyed our trip on Southwest and to me this is the only airline I would travel. Thanks to the pilots and crew of flight #1022. I love traveling Southwest. You make it so easy to travel from CT to San Diego, to visit my daughter, with no changing planes! Not to mention being treated kindly by all your personal. That treatment is very hard to come by on other airlines. Keep up the good work and may you continue to grow as I will always travel Southwest whenever possible.

My brother and I recently flew from PHL to RSW to visit my dying father. We weren't really feeling all that great to boot and the staff on both flights were fanatastic. They had a fun time chatting passengers up and doing their "thing" to remind us of safety measures (seatbelts, flotation devices, etc.) that when we left the airplane we felt better than when we got on. My brother and I want to say thanks for making our flights a little fun in light of our visit. We really appreciate fun people and Southwest for their vitality, on time schedules, and all around people skills or customer service. Keep up the great job and I'll continue to fly you guys. PS. I attended the Advent conference in Las Vegas 10/20-22 at the Bellaggio and Mr. Putnam was our motivational speaker. I felt very uplifted after his speech and I want to tell you, although I finally found a job, I would've loved to work for you all. I can say that Southwest is definitely tops. Again keep doing what you do and keep fares reasonable and you guys will always come out on top. Janine Murphy
