If your bank account is like mine, the pickings are pretty slim this winter. A lot of folks enjoy traveling during the offpeak months, and Southwest wanted to make your winter travel a little easier and more affordable . On Tuesday, we announced a three-day sale that ends today. If you haven’t checked out the details yet, please read our press release and visit southwest.com.

Speaking of fares.... If I bought tickets a month ago and find that the price has dropped on the same flights, can I get my tickets discounted to the better price?

Peter, You can rebook at the lower fare, and then you can use the difference with no fees and no penaltys toward travel that is completed within a year of the original purchase date. Brian (If you booked travel online at southwest.com, use the "change itinerary" feature to make the change.)

Brian, Do I need to cancel first or just open the reservation and "change itinerary"? This will reset to the lower price for the same flight? And the difference isn't refunded, just held for a future flight? If I don't use the left over within a year of the original purchase date, not the reservation date, I'll lose the difference....

No don't cancel first. Go into the reservation and hit change itinerary. It will then give you the option to rebook and you can see if the fare is lower. It won't cancel the other seat until you close the transaction. Yes you are correct, the funds are held for use up to a year from the original purchase date.
