I’ve never met Yisrael Wealcatch, but I like him already. This young man loves Southwest Airlines. I mean … LOVES Southwest Airlines! So much so, that when his parents planned to redecorate his room, all Yisrael wanted was a Southwest Airlines airplane on his wall.
Yes, I think it’s fair to say that I like Yisrael. Maybe it’s because Yisrael reminds me a lot of myself as young boy.
A young boy boarded Southwest Airlines Flight 42 from Dallas to Midland/Odessa in July 1984 and was hooked on aviation, and Southwest, in particular. A young boy who for one birthday wanted a trip to the airport so he could watch airplanes and collect flight schedules and baggage ID tags (thanks, Mom and Dad!). A young boy who also wrote letters to Southwest every year asking for anything with Southwest on it until he eventually got a summer intern job in Marketing. Well, that young boy is not-so-young anymore, but he’s been with Southwest for almost 17 FUN-filled years and hasn’t looked back!
Yisrael wants to be a pilot when he grows up. And while that was my dream as a young boy and circumstances took me on a different flight plan, Yisrael and I both share something very strong in a common—a passion for Southwest.
So let’s be on the lookout for Yisrael in the years ahead … and the many other young boys and girls just like him who see something different about who we are as a Company and want to be a part of it.
