I am flying for the first time since March. I did not get an automatic check in 24 hours before flying. I had to check in manually on the app. Has something changed that I missed?

A List puts you in the que to automatically reserve your boarding position 36 hours prior to flight time.
You still have to "check in" to get your boarding pass.
It has always been this way.

Was your flight ticketed at least 36 hours before the flight? If not then you would have to check in at the normal 24 hour mark. But if you were booked over 36 hours before your flight you will be assigned a boarding position but as mentioned by dfwskier you will still need to check in to see your boarding pass.

Wow, I didn't know this about the 36 hours in advance, I've made some bookings just prior to the 24-hour check-in. But even when I book months out, I still call SWA to have someone check me in any way, you just never know.
