Repurpose with Purpose is one of many ways Southwest gives back to communities all over. Through this initiative, we upcycle, downcycle, and recycle thousands of pounds of discarded material into useful products with the help of Partner organizations. Earlier this year, we had a unique opportunity to partner with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos to surprise children celebrating Reyes Magos or Three Kings’ Day.
Sharing our Heart is a big part of Southwest Airlines and for years, we’ve been dedicated to living responsibly and respecting our resources. As you might have seen on Lifetime last night, we had the unique opportunity to celebrate this dedication by being featured in the fan-favorite, Unconventional Materials episode of Project Runway All Stars!

In 2017, we announced our partnership with Mexican fashion designer Carla Fernández. To create these incredible products, Carla Fernández worked with artisans in seven different communities throughout Mexico who specialize in creating textile and embroidery designs and handcrafts that preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage. Southwest Airlines is proud to celebrate LUV Seat: Mexico during Hispanic Heritage Month and all throughout the year as a part of our Repurpose with Purpose program.
We are thrilled to share our Repurpose with Purpose program video has been entered at the 2018 International Corporate Citizenship Film Festival. We’re proud to celebrate our talented Employees and partners who have made this program possible. To reach the final round of the film finalists, we need your help to spread the LUV!
Southwest Airlines breathes new life into nearly 675,000 pounds of seat covers and other discarded materials in 2017. Collaborations are underway to upcycle, recycle, and downcycle materials in Mexico, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Arizona, and Tennessee.
Tucked away in the mountainous region of Chiapas, Mexico are the remote villages of Tierra y Libertad and Unión Buenavista, where some of onboard partner, Community® coffee is grown. The treacherous terrain makes the areas difficult to reach, especially during the months of heavy rainfall, preventing teachers from accessing the community and limiting the educational resources available to the coffee farmers and their families.
In response to this challenge, Southwest and Community Coffee have committed to making a donation for every pound of coffee served onboard nearly 4,000 daily Southwest flights, to the ECOM Foundation to help fund satellite schools in these remote areas.
At Southwest Airlines, it’s always been about Heart. It’s about Loving People and putting others first. t’s about Building Resilience through connections that last and being part of a community that helps one another because distance shouldn’t keep us from being neighbors. It’s about Living Responsibly and doing things the Southwest Way, which means we do it because we want to, not because we have to.
More than 70 elephants call the Elephant Nature Park home.
Elephants are often subjected to horrifying conditions. Last fall, about 40 Southwest Employees and family members met in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Most were Flight Attendants, many were strangers, but everyone united with a common goal: volunteering at Elephant Nature Park.
