The Quiet Storm Foundation’s Annual Black History Month Oratorical Competition provides Las Vegas middle school students the opportunity to encourage and promote cultural diversity amongst their peers and within their community. The competition is one of many that the Quiet Storm Foundation organizes to help underprivileged youth in the Las Vegas community find their path.

To help create a positive environmental impact in the communities we serve, we have partnerships with a variety of environmentally focused groups, including EcoRise. Twice a year, Southwest Airlines organizes a companywide initiative that encourages Employees to come together and spend time volunteering in their local communities. During this year’s spring companywide initiative, hundreds of Employees put their Hearts in Action and participated in more than 70 projects across the system.
To help us create impact and make this volunteer event a success, we teamed up with one of our sustainability partners, the Student Conservation Association (SCA) to bring conservation projects to cities across the country.
Southwest Airlines partnered with GenHERation to offer two young women from the GenHERation network the chance to attend the 2018 Southwest Airlines Rally in Las Vegas. During the Rally, Melissa and Heidi heard from Senior Leaders on the main stage, connected with Southwest Employees to learn about their career journey, visited with different Teams during the Expo, and experienced the Southwest Culture firsthand.

More than 70 elephants call the Elephant Nature Park home.
Elephants are often subjected to horrifying conditions. Last fall, about 40 Southwest Employees and family members met in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Most were Flight Attendants, many were strangers, but everyone united with a common goal: volunteering at Elephant Nature Park.
