Having traveled solo by air dozens, if not hundreds, of times in my life, the routine of flying can often be lonely and monotonous. During the vast majority of my solo flights I've probably never said a word to anyone except airline personnel. However, that all changed one flight roughly 10 years ago when I strayed from my norm.

I love when the temperature starts to drop. For me it means pumpkin spice everything, football, and my favorite sweatshirt. However, if you live in a cold weather region, then you may not share my same enthusiasm. That said, no matter where you call home, “Old Man Winter” may stop in for an unexpected visit and it is time to get prepared.

I almost skipped my flight. With Southwest’s no change fees and the ease of changing flights, I considered staying at work a little later to help care for a patient. Luckily, my friends urged me to leave and offered to take care of the patient instead for me.

My arrival to the airport was just in the nick of time. I received a frantic call from my boyfriend ensuring I had boarded my flight—I didn't think anything of it.

I boarded the plane just as if it was like any other normal flight … little did I know that was all about to change for me.

My youngest son, 10-year-old Brady, has been Southwest’s biggest fan since as early as he can remember. He is autistic and has been fascinated with Southwest since the earliest flight he recalls—a trip to Disney when he was almost three. Just as much as Brady loves Southwest, I love to knit. So the idea of creating a Southwest teddy bear was right up my alley and it was so fun to make for him.
