Im currently approaching the points threshold to qualify for a companion pass via RR.
However, I also want to use points in the near future to book a flight. My question is if I use available points, lets say its 16,000 points for a round-trip flight, will that put me 16,000 points further away from a companion pass? Or, is it an aggregate total of points earned in a 12-month period?
Im trying to decide whether to pay for flight out of pocket or if I can use my points without setting me back towards reaching the 110,000 point threshold to earn a companion pass.
Thoughts?

The points you use during the year do not take away from the 110,000 needed for the Companion Pass. You just need to earn 110,000 in one year.
Good Luck!

Also, just to clarify, it's not "points earned in a 12-month period" as stated in the original question. Points must be earned in a calendar year, January through December.
