Companion of companion

I have a companion pass. My wife has also earned a companion pass. If I book a flight and add my wife as my companion, for $11.20 for fees, etc. Can she then add my son as her companion? I.e. three for the price of one (excluding the nominal required fees). Or, do you need to have a full fare ticket to be able to add a companion? In the hypothetical above this would disallow my wife to son.

you can’t stack companions. However your wife could buy a ticket and you could then bring 2 people free (1 for you and 1 for her) you can change your companion up to 3 times a year in case that helps you
