Is it better to cancel a flight and rebook or change a flight?

I would change and keep same conformation number. If you cancel there may be a chance the flight could be sold out.

Changing also lets you keep EarlyBird Check-In if you've purchased it.
Now I'm trying to think if there's a good reason to cancel if you know what flight you want to change to. Anyone have a reason canceling is better?

If you have Business Select or Anytime, cancelling gets your money back and retains the refundability when you rebook, as opposed to changing which causes the whole thing to be non-refundable.
Otherwise I think changing is generally the equal or better option for all other cases.

I should have clarified I was referring to WGA fares, but the information you posted is good for others to see. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, some days the brain is a bit slower than others. Too much time in a pressurized tube?

I enjoy the traveling, but I know what you mean, I'm tired!
Business travel will slow down the rest of the year for me, but now we'll go into the opposite mode of using points to fly visiting family.
