Why does Southwest keep eliminating direct flights from Chicago to the west coast?? I am based in Chicago and travel to CA several times a year for work, usually to the Bay Area. I was unable to fly direct both ways to/from San Jose in Feb, so I flew United. I'm booking a trip to SFO in July...Southwest has 3 direct flights / day (the departure times aren't even good), United has 12!!! You are forcing me to fly United!

Also, considering that both Chicago and and San Francisco are major United hubs, it's not surprising they have soooo many flights between the two cities.

Several times! OAK was pretty convenient depending where you are headed after that by train or car.
I have also to SFO although I don't recall the timing exactly if it wasn't favorable. I haven't ever flown to SJC, any trips to that part of the Bay Area I've gone through OAK.
