International connection in Denver

Family going to Cancun in a few weeks. Flying from SLC to DEN then on to CUN. I have read we have to collect our luggage in DEN and check them again for the international flight to CUN. Wondering how fast that is so we don’t miss our connection.

I think you have it backwards. You have to do that when you are returning FROM an international destination, but not wen you are traveling TO that destination.

They do have an "inside" customs and re-screening at DEN so you don't have to go back through the main security line which saves some time for sure - but as @dfwskier mentioned that will be on your way back from CUN, not on the way there.
