This is the tenth in a series of posts about our integrated annual report, the 2010 Southwest Airlines One Report™, where we have illustrated our commitment to a triple bottom line and how our passion and focus on Performance, People, and Planet continues to propel us forward. At Southwest Airlines, we are committed to making environmentally responsible decisions and operating with a green filter, a mindset of protecting our planet while remaining true to our low-cost philosophy. Our green filter is evident in our environmental programs, procurement process, education and outreach efforts, and stakeholder involvement. We believe it’s about more than just doing the right thing. Environmentally responsible decisions also make good business sense. We are continuously seeking new and better ways to further reduce our impact on the environment and use our resources responsibly. One of the ways we do this is by purchasing renewable energy. To power Southwest Airlines-controlled Dallas and Houston facilities, we’re continuing our five-year commitment to purchase 30 percent renewable energy. In addition, we actively look for alternative fuel opportunities to power our aircraft. We are active members of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI), which is a coalition to help develop and deploy alternative jet fuels. Part of our commitment to being a good steward of the environment is making sure our partners understand the importance of green decisions to our Company and our Employees. We have a great partner in Eurest, our café partner, who helped us go green with compostable containers and corn-based products. To create a sustainable business and affect change, we all need to work together. We are proud of our commitment to being a good citizen of the world. We look forward to sharing the journey with you in our blog post series on Performance, People, and Planet, and we hope it will inspire you to read our 2010 Southwest Airlines One Report™, which, in an effort to conserve our natural resources, can only be found online at www.southwest.com/citizenship.

There's nothing like a parade to get everyone excited for a big event. But have you ever seen a parade move through the middle of an airport terminal? It probably wouldn't surprise you to know it's all for Southwest, the largest air carrier in Nevada. As part of a celebration marking 20 years of serving Northern Nevada through Reno-Tahoe International (RNO), the airport held a parade of tourism industry professionals this morning to show just how many jobs and people are impacted by the success of our service here. Besides our Southwest Employees, including six RNO originals, parade marchers included the University of Nevada Spirit Team, McQueen High School Marching Band, and other tourism industry professionals who recognized two decades of "giving lift" to this winter sports paradise If it sounds like I'm a little biased, I have to tell you my time here as a Station Leader in the mid-1990s left me with some of the best memories of my professional career at Southwest. The legacy lives on as our Team here delivers operational excellence every day, and they make me even more proud to be an Officer at Southwest, especially as we prepare to celebrate our Company's 40th Anniversary next year. Our Culture Team was also out in full force, sharing the celebration with our Customers on the first flights of the day and feeding our Employees during their breaks. Good food is at the heart of so many great memories, and our People are Sharing the Spirit across Northern Nevada by pairing up with the Evelyn Mount Community Outreach Food Drive to provide year-round and holiday meals to hungry families. Congratulations, Team RNO on 20 great years, with more to come!
